Hello everyone :)
I mentioned this beauty of a palette in my first Makeup Mess Monday, but I wanted to do a full review for you - lord it deserves it.
MAC eyeshadows have always been a staple in the beauty world with promises of buttery softness, amazing pigmentation and a great range of colours. It's safe to say my expectations were high when I opened the Showstopper Eyeshadow Palette on Christmas Day and, apart from one shade, it did not disappoint.
The palette contains four shades - Oh My Darling, Jest, Showstopper and Mineralism. It's more on the neutral side but Jest and Mineralism definitely add a little bit of glamour to the palette, making it perfect for day and night. I also love that it doesn't contain your typical bronze shade either - it's quite unique but still wearable.
I love the new MAC packaging for their eyeshadows; it's nice to able to see all of your shadows (especially if you're lucky enough to own quite a few) and I think it's much more sleek than their previous palettes. The magnetic lid also adds a little more luxury.
Oh My Darling is the perfect base shadow - perfect for sweeping all over the lid to even out the tone or just for a more casual look. It's described as a Froste finish, but only has a slight shimmer running through it, so it'd be great as a subtle highlight on your brow bone and inner corner too. The pigmentation is really good for such a pale shade and it blends beautifully.
Jest is by far my favourite shadow in the palette. It's a gorgeous rose gold colour with a Froste finish that I use to step up my everyday routine. It's not a shade I usually go for which is why I love it so much. I'd gotten stuck in a rut of using the same bronze eyeshadow everyday for Sixth Form but it's nice to try something a little different every now and then.
As with Oh My Darling, the pigmentation of the shadow is just what you'd expect from MAC and it's super soft and buttery. This shade definitely deserves more attention in the blogosphere.
I have to be honest, Showstopper is probably my least favourite of the four. As you can see in the swatches below, the pigmentation just isn't up to scratch, especially for an eyeshadow worth a staggering £10. It's a matte, dark brown shadow with a slightly purple undertone that's just a little too dark to use in the crease but not quite pigmented enough to blend along the lash line. It's just a bit - meh.
Mineralism is a gorgeous, glittery silver with a Lustre finish that is to die for. It's perfect for more special occasions when you want to add a little something special. Some other bloggers have criticised the pigmentation of this shade but in my opinion it's pretty amazing - I wonder why that is? I love this shade, but I just wish I had more places to wear it to..
As you can probably tell, I really love this palette. It's just a shame about Showstopper - I feel like a warm brown might have been a better choice?
Hopefully you enjoyed this review and if there are any other products you'd like me to review please let me know in the comments :)
