Hello everyone :)
Today I felt like doing a more heart to heart post, so when I found the Beauty Blogger Tag I thought it was perfect and also sounded like fun. It's been a while since I did a tag-type-post so I thought it was about time.
1. Why did you start blogging and how long have you been blogging for?
I've always had an interest in media and journalism, and having a blog is a great way to put myself out there and get some experience in writing. I actually discover the beauty world of YouTube before blogs, but once I found beauty blogs I was completely sold and have been in love with beauty ever since.
I actually started this blog in August 2012, so when I had just turned 15 - my blog actually used to be called 'Young, British & Fashion Obsessed', how cringey..
2. Whose blog did you fall in love with first?
I think the first blog I ever followed was Fleur De Force, and to this day she is still one of my favourite bloggers. Her reviews are so detailed, well thought out and professional, and I like that she's not afraid to give her real opinion. I always trust her reviews and hers is the first blog I go to when I see a new product released. It also helps that she shares the same Rimmel obsession as me..
3. What was the first blogosphere hyped up product that you bought? Was it worth the hype?
I can't really remember, but I have a feeling it was the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation - and I absolutely hate it. I bought the lightest shade and it was so orange on me (other pale girls will feel my pain) and it just looked cakey and not good at all. I don't know what's wrong with me though, as everyone else seems to love it. I've tried and tried to get some use out of it but in the end I gave up and donated to to my sister.
4. What have you learnt from being a beauty blogger?
I've learnt everything I know about makeup from beauty blogs and YouTube. I had no clue about how to apply foundation or what eyeshadows to buy etc., but reading blogs has helped me discover which products would suit me best and how to take care of my skin. I'm still learning everyday, so it's a great thing to get involved in (though it's not great for your bank account - I'm forever in Superdrug now).
5. Have you changed anything since becoming a beauty blogger?
I've become a lot more interested in photography and recently bought the Canon EOS 1100D, so that was a big change for me. I think I've also become less scared of putting myself out there. It's a nice feeling having your own little corner of the internet to put forward your opinions, and if someone disagrees - it doesn't matter. You're entitled to your own views and that is what blogging is for.
6. What advice would you give to a beauty blogger just starting out?
I would say choose a main topic for your blog; be it fashion, beauty or food, you want a main focus that you have a genuine interest in and feel like you could write a lot about.
Also, try and make your layout quite simple and easy to navegate - the easier your blog is to use, the more likely your readers are to come back.
Lastly I would say be honest. If you dislike a product, don't praise it just to follow the crowd. Readers are much more likely to trust your opinion and come back for more if you are completely honest about your experiences with each product.
7. What are your top 5 makeup brands?
This is very very very hard, so I'm not going to put them in order (is that cheating..?)
Rimmel - I love Rimmel. I love their mascaras, powders, nail polishes and lipsticks - especially the Kate Moss 107. They just know how to make great quality products without the large price tag.
Revlon - Mainly for their lip products. I'm a huge fan of their Lip Butters and the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, and I also own the Nearly Naked Foundation which I love for the summer.
MAC - This is a recent discovery for me. I've always lusted over every single product on the website and walked longingly past each counter I come across, but this year I finally got my hands on some and it's quickly become a staple brand in my everyday routine. It may be expensive, but it's definitely worth it in my opinion.
Bourjois - I love Bourjois purely for their Healthy Mix range. I love both the foundation and concealer, and their packaging is nice and quirky.
MUA - MUA is amazing, super affordable brand here in the UK (I think they're based in Superdrug only) and the quality of their products considering the price is simply amazing. £1 for an eyeshadow that could rival MAC? Yes please.
8. What are your top 5 beauty products? (all linked to reviews!)
Bobbi Brown Corrector - This corrector is an essential for an A Level student. It instantly corrects the blue tones under your eyes and brightens dark circles like no other. It's a bit pricey but it's one of my only indulgences in my daily routine. (mini review here)
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation - Could I mention this any more in one post? I'll just let it speak for itself..
MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre - I get a lot of veins and discolouration on my eyelids and this is a really quick and easy way to cover them up. Great as a base and for those days when I just can't be bothered with eyeshadow.
Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107 - I'm not a huge wearer of bold lips, but when I do it's almost always this. It's the perfect pink toned, matte red that's long lasting and doesn't leave the lips dry and flaky. I also love the sleek, red packaging and the scent is lovely. (mini review here)
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara - A recent addition to my top 5 is this amazing mascara. It has a lot of hype surrounding it and I can definitely understand why. Lengthening? Check. Clump free? Check. Cheap? Check. An amazing drugstore mascara. (review here)
Hope you enjoyed this post! If you do the tag yourself please feel free to link it below, I'd love to read it :)
